Meaning
Road Closed Ahead warns that the route is closed farther along. The federal manual allows it before a closure affecting everyone or one that still permits local access. Read the closure message rather than assuming every driver has permission to continue.
What to do
Prepare for the closure and follow the posted traffic controls. Kansas explains that work-zone barriers keep vehicles away from closed or dangerous areas; the advance warning is no permission to pass those barriers.
Where it is used
This is advance notice before the actual closure. The message can use Road or Street and can state a distance or say Ahead. The point of closure may be farther away than the sign.
A sign to tell apart
