.
Meaning
T-Intersection warns that your road meets another road and does not continue straight beyond it. Alabama explains that you must choose a left or right turn. The warning identifies the junction’s shape; other traffic controls determine when you may enter it.
What to do
Look ahead for the junction, prepare to reduce speed and plan the turn. Pennsylvania’s intersection guidance calls for extra attention to other vehicles and how the roads meet.
Where it is used
The advance warning is before the intersection. It gives time to recognize that straight-ahead travel ends before reaching the junction itself.
A sign to tell apart
Side Road shows a branch joining a continuing road. A T-Intersection requires a direction change at the junction because your route does not continue through. The diagrams help you tell a joining-road conflict from a turning decision.
Practice with explanations
These are original learning questions based on the cited handbooks. Read each answer and its explanation below.
1. At the Alabama T-intersection pictured by this warning, which movement is unavailable?

2. A T-Intersection warning gives advance notice in Pennsylvania. What is an appropriate preparation?
- Assume entering traffic must always stop for you.
- Wait until the end of the road to choose a direction.
- Search the junction and prepare to slow for a turn.
Answer: C. Search the junction and prepare to slow for a turn.
The warning helps you recognize the road arrangement and anticipate other vehicles before arrival.
