Meaning
Truck warns of trucks entering or crossing the road. Florida tells drivers to watch for those movements. It does not designate a truck-only lane; it alerts you to a vehicle whose size and movement can create a conflict with your path.
What to do
Check the truck’s movements and leave it space to complete a turn. Pennsylvania explains that a truck may need room from another lane to clear a corner. Do not squeeze past during the turning movement; wait until the truck has completed it.
Where it is used
The federal manual allows the truck symbol or the words Truck Crossing to warn of unexpected entry. Guidance limits this warning family to unexpected activity or restricted sight distance. The hazard can be at a specific location or along a road section, so keep scanning beyond the signpost.

A sign to tell apart
Farm Vehicle warns of a different type of unexpected vehicle entry. The truck warning specifically prompts you to anticipate truck movements, including the wide turning path described in Pennsylvania’s handbook. The similar warning shape does not identify a reserved lane for either vehicle type.
Practice with explanations
These are original learning questions based on the cited handbooks. Read each answer and its explanation below.
1. A truck is making a wide turn in Pennsylvania. When should you try to pass it?
- Only after the turning movement is complete.
- While it swings away from the corner.
- As soon as its rear wheels enter another lane.
Answer: A. Only after the turning movement is complete.
Trucks can use space from adjacent lanes during a turn. Do not pass through that changing path.
2. You follow a truck in Pennsylvania and cannot see its side mirrors. What does the handbook say about your visibility to its driver?
- The driver can always see you through a rear window.
- The driver cannot see you.
- Your headlights guarantee the driver can see you.
Answer: B. The driver cannot see you.
If you cannot see those mirrors, the handbook warns that the truck driver cannot see your vehicle. Avoid following in that blind area.
