Meaning

Pass With Care ends the signed no-passing restriction where this sign follows Do Not Pass. It does not tell you that a pass is safe at this moment. Florida’s handbook describes permission to pass with caution, leaving the driver responsible for checking the maneuver.

What to do

In Florida, check your blind spots and allow enough time and road space before pulling out. Keep within the speed limit while passing. Permission to begin considering a pass does not remove the legal speed ceiling or make space appear in an occupied lane.

Where it is used

Federal guidance places Pass With Care at the far end of a no-passing zone when Do Not Pass marks its beginning. That pairing identifies a change in the signed restriction. Continue assessing the road beyond the sign rather than using it as a command to overtake immediately.

A sign to tell apart

Do Not Pass prohibits overtaking in the signed area. Pass With Care restores a passing opportunity subject to caution. The messages work at opposite ends of a zone; the latter still requires you to choose a safe gap and keep the pass within the speed limit.

Practice with explanations

These are original learning questions based on the cited handbooks. Read each answer and its explanation below.

1. You pass Pass With Care in Florida. May you exceed the speed limit to finish overtaking sooner?

  1. No; the speed limit still applies during the pass.
  2. Yes, until you return to your lane.
  3. Yes, if the road ahead is empty.

Answer: A. No; the speed limit still applies during the pass.

Permission to pass does not create a speeding exception. Florida explicitly keeps the speed limit in force during overtaking.

2. Before pulling out to pass in Florida, which check is required?

  1. Only whether the vehicle ahead is slower.
  2. Whether your headlights are on in daylight.
  3. Blind spots and enough time and room for the maneuver.

Answer: C. Blind spots and enough time and room for the maneuver.

A passing opportunity must still be checked for space and unseen traffic. The sign itself does not perform those checks.
