Michigan teen permit rules
Minimum permit age
14 years and 9 months for a GDL Level1 learner’s license after Segment1; adult TIP is a different route.
Requirements under 18
To apply for the Level 1 learner license, complete Segment 1 and pass its state exam, then attend a Secretary of State office with a parent or guardian. The Level 1 minimum age is 14 years and nine months.
Driver’s education
Teens under 18 follow GDL driver education; the handbook exempts teens licensed in another state for more than a year. Adults 18 or older use a separate licensing route without mandatory driver education.
