Arizona teen permit rules
Minimum permit age
15 years and 6 months for the graduated instruction permit; an operator instruction permit requires age 18.
Requirements under 18
For the Class G instruction permit, applicants must be at least 15½, pass knowledge and vision tests, bring original supporting documents and have a photo taken. Required parent or guardian approval may be signed at MVD or notarized. The signing rules depend on parent marital/custody status; alternate legal signers need the specified evidence.
Driver’s education
At the graduated-license stage, Arizona lists three routes: 30 supervised hours including 10 at night plus the road test; 20 hours including six at night after an approved traffic-survival or defensive-driving course, plus the road test; or completion of an approved high-school/private driver-education program with the road test waived. These are post-permit routes.
