Alaska teen permit rules
Minimum permit age
14
Requirements under 18
An instruction-permit applicant younger than 18 needs parental consent, identification, and passing vision and written tests. For a first provisional Class D license, a 16- or 17-year-old must hold a permit for six months; a parent, guardian, or employer must certify 40 driving hours, including 10 in progressively challenging conditions. A traffic-law conviction in the six months before applying prevents provisional issuance.
